Transcription of a deed dated 5th October 1855 and entered into between Julius C. Young and his wife Mary as sellers and Alva Benedict as purchaser, relating to 50 acres of land in Allegheny Township, Venango County, PA, and recorded on 26th January 1861 in Deed Book S, pp.473-474.

DEED Julius C. Young to Alva Benedict

Recorded January 26th 1861

This Indenture made this fifth day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand eight hundred and fifty five between Julius C. Young[1] and Mary[2] his wife of Allegheny Tp. Venango County Pennsylvania of the first part and Alva Benedict of Pleasantville county and state aforesaid of the second part Witnesseth that the said party of the first part for and in consideration of the sum of seven hundred dollars to them in hand paid by the said party of the second part, the receipt of which is hereby acknowledged have granted bargained sold released and confirmed and by these presents doth bargain grant sell release and confirm unto the said party of the second part his heirs and assigns all that certain piece or parcel of land situate lying and being in Allegheny Township County of Venango State of Pennsylvania and bounded as follows “Commencing at a post standing on the North East corner of land of Robert Neill and adjoining lands of the heirs of James Carson decd thence running North adjoining lands of the heirs of said James Carson Decd ninety perches to a post, thence running West ninety three and three fourths perches to a post, thence running South adjoining lands of Amos Lockwood Ninety perches to a post adjoining lands of David Wilson, thence running East adjoining lands of said Wilson and Robert Neill ninety three and three fourths perches to the place of beginning containing fifty acres of land and the allowance of six percent for roads &c be the same more or less together with all and singular the heraditaments and appurtenances thereunto belonging and the remainders and reversions, rents issues and profits thereof

to have and to hold the premises hereby granted with the appurtenances unto the said party of the second part his heirs and assigns to the use of the said party of the second part his heirs and assigns forever. And the said parties of the first part and their heirs, the premises hereby granted with the appurtenances against all and every person or persons whatsoever lawfully claiming or to claim the same or any part thereof, to the said party of the second part his heirs and assigns shall and will warrant and forever defend by these presents In witness whereof the parties of the first part to these presents have hereunto set their hands and seals the day and year first above written

Before me the subscriber one of the Justices of the Peace in and for said county personally came the above named Julius C Young and Mary his wife and acknowledged the above Indenture to be their act and deed and desired the same might be recorded as such. She the said Mary E. Young being of full age and by me examined separate and apart from her husband and the contents of the said Indenture being by me first made known to her, she declared that she did of her own free will and accord sign seal and as her act and deed, deliver the same without coercion or compulsion of her husband Witness the hand and seal of said Justice the sixth day of October in the year of our Lord one thousand and eight hundred and fifty five.

[1] Julius Caesar Young, born 7 September 1826 in Lebanon, CT, or in Pennsylvania. He died 21 July 1861 in Pleasantville, Venango County, PA, and is buried in Fairview Cemetery in Pleasantville.
[2] Mary (May) Eleanor Young (née Hamil) was born 9 April 1831 in New York City. After her husband Julius’s death, she married E.O. Savage on 10 September 1866 and had six further children before her death on 6 January 1910. She is also buried in Fairview Cemetery, Pleasantville.
